Concern over Norfolk Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) attempting to increase his powers
Letter to the Editor:
Norfolk's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) attended a public meeting with Downham Market residents recently.
PCC Lorne Green told us about "efficiencies" of millions of pounds that he has overseen in Norfolk policing. He means cuts which are a direct result of Tory government policy.
It seems that some Conservative MPs are also proud of the PCC's record of delivering cuts and want him to take over governance of Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) and oversee "efficiencies" in that vital service too.
However, Norfolk County Council has already run a public consultation after which it guaranteed to protect the future and capital funding of the fire and rescue service because the residents of Norfolk made it very clear we do not want fire stations or fire crews reduced.
I will be following closely this attempt to increase the powers of the PCC, as are councillors of all parties who have written to the PCC asking him not to proceed.
