Encouraging Result in King’s Lynn By-election
West Norfolk Liberal Democrats recently contested a Borough council by-election in central King's Lynn.
Our candidate was Helen Russell-Johnson who grew up in King's Lynn and lives in the ward. She is chair of the local UNICEF supporters group, a member of the Ward Forum and Vice-chair of King's Lynn Civic Society.
Helen and I attended a 'Postal Vote Opening Session' in the week of polling day, when we were able to observe the council's procedures and checks - but unable to see the actual votes!
The photo shows the declaration of results to Helen (left) and the other candidates, at the Count on the morning after the by-election. Helen achieved a close third place, our best local election result for some time, in an area in which the Lib Dems have not been active for many years.
We tested new campaign techniques and technology which give us a good base on which to build for the 2019 council elections, when we aim to have Lib Dem councillors elected to the Borough.
