We are delighted to announce that Rob Colwell has been elected to serve as the new Chair of West Norfolk Liberal Democrats. He is well known as a King's Lynn based solicitor, an active local campaigner and a leading member of the Round Table.

Having spearheaded the official all-party West Norfolk campaign to remain in the European Union in last year's referendum, Rob was one of the many people locally and nationally who turned to the Liberal Democrats.

With membership at a record high, having nearly quadrupled since the 2015 general election, which in turn led to increased campaigning capacity and political activity, West Norfolk Liberal Democrats are well-placed to meet the challenges and opportunities 2018 will bring. Both nationally, under Vince Cable's leadership and in Norfolk, with Norman Lamb leading the way, the Liberal Democrats are developing a range of progressive and imaginative policy positions on issues such as health and social care, affordable housing and protection of frontline services in the face of Tory cuts.

Rob Colwell commented, "We are certainly living in interesting times: political uncertainty and polarisation will become more apparent as BREXIT negotiations stumble and stall towards conclusion and the economic and social threats become starker, widening faultlines and divisions in both Tory and Labour parties.

"Looking ahead to the Borough Council elections in 2019, the Liberal Democrats will be seeking to build a movement beyond narrow party tribalism to ensure that the needs of our local community are met and voices from the margins are listened to. We will be developing a range of inclusive, tolerant and sustainable policies designed to increase public participation and are committed to working with voluntary sector groups and those from other parties, or none, to put West Norfolk first."
