West Norfolk Liberal Democrats urge local MPs to stand up for tolerance and inclusiveness
West Norfolk Liberal Democrats are urging local MPs Henry Bellingham and Liz Truss to put pressure on the Government to stand up to Donald Trump's ban on many Muslims entering the US and rethink plans for state visit.
The Rev'd Simon Wilson, Chair of West Norfolk Liberal Democrats commented:
"Any visit by President Trump to Britain should be on hold until his disgraceful ban comes to an end. Otherwise Theresa May would be placing the Queen in an impossible position of welcoming a man who is banning British citizens purely on grounds of their faith. No-one should be barred for who they are, where they are from or who they pray to. Our local MPs should be standing up for the values of tolerance and inclusiveness shared by many in our community and against divisive attacks on the rights of refugees, women and others already targeted by Mr Trump in the first weeks of his Presidency. In her recent visit, Theresa May had the perfect opportunity to confront the Trump administration but failed to do so."
Over 1.6million people have already signed a petition calling for the state visit invitation to be withdrawn, including over three thousand residents of West Norfolk, with more signing by the hour.
